Old Is New Again!

For those out there that like studio gear as much as we do, the NAMM show is an exciting time every year. There are always lots of new gear announcements, demos, and photos. There's been a lot of activity in the "analog gear" realm the past few conventions in particular and this year is no exception. NAMM is still going but already some really cool gear has emerged from the show.

One of the coolest is a collaboration between synth legend, Dave Smith, and drum machine icon, Roger Linn. Their new product, Tempest, is a full-featured analog drum machine. It's got analog oscillators as well as digital samples, filters, envelopes, MIDI, etc., allowing fully customizable old-school drum sounds along with classic "step" programming. It looks like the ultimate modern analog drum machine. Also, Roger Linn stated that he's got another drum machine in the works but hasn't talked about what will make it different from the Tempest. We'd love to get our hands on one of these and put it through its paces!

Drum machines are back and better than ever!
